McMurdo Station, Ross Island, Antarctica

Here are some of the photos I took while working on the NSF “Culture and Health in Antarctica” grant for the University of Rochester’s Division of Public Health Practice.¬†With roughly 1,200 inhabitants at the busiest time of year, McMurdo Station is the largest base and the primary re-supply point for most of the continent.

Cargo Night Crew

During my time at McMurdo Station I had the good fortune to be adopted by the excellent members of Team Merkin (def.); one of two groups of night shift workers managing the flow of cargo through the base.

New Zealand

These photos were taken during the time I spent with my colleagues Peter Fleming, Kathryn Donhauser, and Machaon Bonafede in New Zealand waiting to deploy to Antarctica. NZ is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful, pristine, and friendly places I have ever visited.
